Golden Rule Award

April 2016

The Be ONE Project and Matthew Kaplan were awarded the Youth Category of the Golden Rule Award. The Golden Rule award is given to deserving individuals and organizations that embody the concept of the Golden Rule and are awarded by the Arizona Interfaith Movement. The award was accepted by Tristan Peterson-Steinert on behalf of Matthew Kaplan. 



Hollister: Echosmith and The Be ONE Project PSA

Matthew Kaplan was featured in the PSA created as a joint venture between indie pop band Echosmith and the clothing company Hollister as a part of their new campaign, "All Equal".

Radio Disney Music Awards: Hero for Change

April 2014

Matthew was named a 2014 Disney "Hero for Change" for creating The Be ONE Project.

Three Dot Dash - Global Teen Leader

April 2014


Three Dot Dash selected Matthew to attend the 2014 Just Peace International Summit as one of thirty delegates chosen from an international pool of applicants. During this all-expense paid program, Matthew attended workshops conducted by experts in non-profit management and social justice.

Peace First Fellow

October 2014


The Peace First Foundation offers two-year fellowships to five young peacemakers, selected for their compassion, courage, and ability to create collaborative change. Out of a national pool of applicants, Peace First selected Matthew as one of five fellows. The Peace First Prize includes an award of $25,000.

Youth Service America's Global Youth Council Member    

September 2014


The ten international members of the Youth Service America Global Youth Council work to increase youth involvement in service by acting as YSA ambassadors on an international scale. Matthew Kaplan was selected to be a Global Youth Council member in 2014.

The Children's Museum of Indianapolis - Power of Children Award

November 2014

The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis recognizes young people making significant contributions to the lives of other children. Out of a national pool of applicants, Matthew was selected as one of five Power of Children Award Winners for his work with The Be ONE Project. As the recipient of this award, Matthew received a grant for The Be ONE Project, a feature in the Museum's "Power of Children" exhibit, and will be featured in a book published by The Children's Museum of Indianapolis.

Prudential Spirit of Community Award

March 2015

The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program is the United States' largest and most prestigious youth volunteer recognition program. In 2015, Matthew was selected as Arizona’s State Honoree for his anti-bullying work as the founder of The Be ONE Project.

Arizona Governor's Volunteer Service Award

April 2014

The Arizona Governor's Commission on Service and Volunteerism named Matthew the Youth Volunteer of the Year for 2014 - the highest volunteering award in the State of Arizona. Disney Friends for Change

March 2014

Disney Friends for Change awarded The Be ONE Project a $500 grant to continue making a positive impact on school communities.

ABC Summer of Service Award

October 2013

The ABC Summer Service Award recognizes young community change makers across the United States. The Be ONE Project was one of five winners of the top ABC Summer of Service award of $5,000. 


JOLLY Time Pop Corn's Kernels of Kindness Award

August 2014

JOLLY TIME Pop Corn selected 100 individuals, out of 6,620 applicants, to receive the JOLLY TIME Kernel of Kindness award honoring exceptional contributions to communities nationwide. JOLLY TIME awarded Matthew the Kernels of Kindness award, along with a $1,000 grant to further his work with The Be ONE Project. 

Unilever Project Sunlight Award

Unilever Project Sunlight is a long-term initiative that cultivates sustainable living to create brighter futures for children. Matthew was honored with one of ten 2014 Project Sunlight Awards for his work with The Be ONE Project.



"National Child Awareness Month" Ambassador, Youth Service America

April 2013

Matthew Kaplan was selected to represent the State of Arizona at a leadership summit in Washington D.C. as Arizona's National Child Awareness Month's (NCAM) Youth Ambassador. While in Washington, Matthew met with United States Senator Jeff Flake (R-AZ) to discuss the problem of bullying in middle schools.

Kohl's Kids Who Care Winner

May 2014


Kohl's awards college scholarships to students with outstanding academics, leadership, and community service. From hundreds of applicants, Matthew was selected as 1 of 182 regional winners.

The Pollination Project

November 2013

Every day, The Pollination Project gives a $1,000 seed grant to support a project that fosters compassion in local communities across the globe. The Pollination Project, in partnership with Go Inspire Go, honored Matthew as The Pollination Project "Thanksgiving Hero." In connection with The Pollination Project "Thanksgiving Hero" Award, Matthew and The Be ONE Project were featured on Huffington Post.

Go Inspire Go - 50/50 Honoree


Go Inspire Go is a non-profit organization that leverages social media to tell the stories of everyday people doing extraordinary things. This year, Go Inspire Go launched a campaign to tell the stories of 50 real-life heroes in 50 states. Matthew Kaplan, founder of The Be ONE Project was selected to be the kickoff story of the 50/50 mission.

True Hero Award

The Be ONE Project won the True Hero Award for its anti-bullying work in middle schools throughout Arizona.




The Christopher Reeve Award Finalist

The Heart of America Foundation's Christopher Reeve Award honors extraordinary teens who have demonstrated outstanding service to their communities. Out of hundreds of applications, Matthew was selected as one of five national finalists.

Everyday Young Hero Award

December 2013

Youth Service America highlights teens making extraordinary contributions to their communities with the YSA Everyday Young Hero Award. For his work with The Be ONE Project, Matthew was selected as an Everyday Young Hero in December 2013. 

Start a Snowball Grant

October 2013

Start a Snowball is a non-profit organization committed to empowering kids to engage in philanthropy, by providing funding for youth-driven community service projects. The Be ONE Project was honored to receive one of Start a Snowball's very first grants. 

AmTrust Caring Kid Award

June 2013

The AmTrust Caring Kid Award celebrates Arizona kids who are making a positive impact in their communities. AmTrust awarded Matthew a $150 savings account and featured Matthew on a segment of Sonoran Living Live.
